MONTVALE, Va. – Authorities say crews are currently on the scene battling a fire at the Montvale Recreation Center.
Crews say they received the call for the fire around 2:20 a.m. Friday.
No injuries have been reported. No information is available on damages but our crews on the scene report the building is still smoking as of 7:45 a.m.
The Montvale Rec Club describes itself on facebook as a non profit organization to provide opportunities for children to participate in sporting events and to provide entertainment for the community.
Ann Switzer, the rec club president told 10 News she arrived at 3 a.m. Friday.
Switzer said the club was built in the 1980s by the older generation, it was their dream and they were keeping it alive so it’s a big loss.
It club was also used it as a venue for birthdays and weddings.
Switzer said that’s how they made their money and just received community donations since they couldn’t have those events during Coronavirus restrictions. The president said the building is insured and some of the crews working to fight the first have played sports there or gone to an event at the club.
The fire marshal will determine the cause of the fire.
