A 77-year-old man is hospitalized after a tractor-trailer crash that happened Friday morning, according to the Danville Police Department.

At about 6:18 a.m., 77-year-old John Fielden Clark lost control of his car and overturned across the southbound lane of US-29 South in Danville, according to authorities.

Police said after Clark was removed from his truck, he was transferred to the Emergency Room at SOVAH of Danville and then later flown to Duke Medical Center for treatment.

According to officers, his tractor-trailer was carrying 80,000 pounds of lumber bound for Ridgeway, Virginia. All southbound lanes were closed for several hours due to cleanup.

Charges are pending further investigation and anyone with any information about the crash is asked to call the Danville Police Department at 434-799-6510 or contact the department through its CARE app.

A tractor-trailer crash has closed US-29 South in Danville, according to VDOT.

According to police, the accident happened just north of the South Boston Rd overpass. As of 7:06 a.m., all southbound lanes remain closed.

Traffic is being detoured onto US-58 West, then through a crossover onto US-58 East, then back onto US-29 South.
