89-year-old woman dies in Pittsylvania County crash

PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. – An 89-year-old woman is dead after a crash in Pittsylvania County on Wednesday, according to Virginia State Police.

Authorities said the two-vehicle crash happened around 12:40 p.m. at the intersection of Golf Club Road.

Lovelyne Thompson, 89, of Danville, was driving a 1999 Honda CRV on Golf Club Road and went through a stop sign at the intersection of Route 41 and hit a 2018 Toyota head-on, police said.

Authorities said Thompson was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital by helicopter where she later died. The driver of the Toyota was not hurt, police said.

The crash remains under investigation, according to police.
