BLACKSBURG, Va. – The town of Blacksburg is taking steps to help residents understand the need for affordable housing in the area.

Blacksburg Staff launched the “Faces of Blacksburg” campaign.

Part of the campaign shows pictures of people who struggled to find affordable housing in Blacksburg on the town’s Facebook.

The goal is to dispel common myths about affordable housing and provide more context on what the town is doing to address the issue, which is setting up a trust fund.

“A local housing trust fund which is essentially a bank account specifically focused on affordable housing projects in the town, we’re also working to set up a community land trust, which would make first-time homeownership in the town much easier, in the town because that is a big issue,” Kim Thurlow, Blacksburg Housing Initiatives Manager said.

Blacksburg town staff said the campaign shall remain up for a month.
