Rockbridge County expands emergency services to overnight hours

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY, Va. – Rockbridge County is expanding its emergency services.

The county’s Board of Supervisors approved the creation of three more positions, and those people will be trained in both fire and EMS.

Rockbridge County Fire-Rescue Chief Nathan Ramsey said this will allow the county to have a nighttime-staffed ambulance.

He adds the goal is to alleviate the burden on neighboring districts, like Lexington and Buena Vista.

“Ultimately, we want to make sure that our citizens are being served, and in the event of an emergency if they call 9-1-1 that someone’s going to be there efficiently and able to provide care,” Ramsey said.

Rockbridge County Fire and Rescue announced plans to modify their facilities to allow overnight stays.

Ramsey said the cost of the total expansion is $190,000 for a complete year.
