Here's a look at some of the stories we'll be following today

Lloyd Welch returns to court today in Bedford County for a pre-trial motions hearing.  His jury trial was originally scheduled to start today, but that has been continued to September.  In February, Welch's attorneys were advised by the Commonwealth that there is additional evidence.  Prosecutors handed over dental records to the defense after a tooth was found during a dig on Taylor's Mountain.  The Commonwealth also said it will offer DNA evidence during the trial. 

Boones Mill cuts the ribbon today on Village Park.  The town purchased the 73 acre industrial property for redevelopment to use for small businesses while also maintaining the hillside and creek.  The park includes the historic train depot and 50,000 square foot commercial building.

Danville City Council will hold a work session today as it works to finalize its budget.  Council will review department budgets.  The city manager is proposing a $720,000 increase for the police department and $1.6 million more for schools.  Also at tonight's meeting, council will discuss charging penalties for "excessive growth of weeds or grass."

The vice-chancellor of the University of Nottingham will speak today at Virginia Tech.  Sir David Greenaway will join President Tim Sands for a discussion on how a top-100 global university can form partnerships and prepare students for their careers.  Nearly ten years ago, Virginia Tech's College on Engineering and the University of Nottingham formed a research partnership with more than 30 faculty and 35 students working together in engineering areas.

50 Ways-Rockbridge holds a meeting tonight with state senator Creigh Deeds.  He will talk about on-going political concerns and will answer questions.  The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. At the Lylburn Downing Community Center in Lexington.

Work will begin today on the US 29 bridge over the Banister River.  Repairs will be made to the bridge deck, requiring periodic lane closures.  Work is expected to take about three weeks.

Lane closure are possible starting today on Interstate 81 in Botetourt County.  Bridge repairs and milling and patching operations will take place.  Tonight, the right lane will close between mile markers 164 and 166 northbound from 6 p.m. to 10 a.m. Tomorrow.

The Radford woman, charged with tampering with medication at South Roanoke Nursing home is expected to enter a guilty plea today in federal court.  Christina Calloway is charged with tampering with a consumer product that could result in the danger of death or bodily injury.  Court documents says that she tampered with morphine in medication bottles that were intended for patients.
