Salem home health company adds pet therapy program

A Labrador retriever tags along as professionals make patient visits

SALEM, Va. – A home health care company is making a difference for patients with a special visitor.

Interim Healthcare in Salem recently started a pet therapy program.

A Labrador retriever named Rollie tags along as professionals make patient visits.

The owner says Rollie is already reaching people in a way humans can't.

Mitch Davis, Interim Healthcare, president and CEO said, “A patient that is having difficulty stretching or range of motion they may not want to do it when the therapist asks, but if you get the dog involved I can actually help them improve their function.”

Davis traveled to New York to pick-up Rollie up from Canine Companions for Independence and bring her back to Salem.

He hopes to add more therapy to the program in the future.
