Salvation Army and Salem Red Sox to celebrate Christmas in July

SALEM (WSLS 10) - July may be sunny and nearly 90 degrees, but Friday the Salvation Army hopes you'll be in the Christmas spirit.

Before you head out the Salem Red Sox game Friday the Salvation Army wants you to "pack your pockets" as they help "pack the park," so bring any extra change to drop in the red kettles as you enter the gates.

Along with bell ringers Santa will be on hand to get folks in the Christmas spirit.

"It's a reminder that the Salvation Army is year-round. The kettles go out at Christmas time and everybody recognizes and sees during that time were very visible and then the rest of the year they don't always see us out and about so people seeing the red kettles will kind of remind them you know what there are still things going on throughout the year," said Captain Bill McKinley.

The game starts at 7:05 as the Red Sox take on the Wilmington Blue Rocks.

A portion of tickets sold by the Salvation Army prior to the game goes to the non-profit.
