RADFORD (WSLS10) - Radford University introduced its new president Thursday afternoon.

During a tour of campus, Doctor Brian Hemphill talked to students and staff.

Hemphill will serve as the university's seventh president.

He succeeds Penelope Kyle, who is retiring after 11 years.

During his presidency, Hemphill hopes to increase the endowment to allow more scholarship opportunities.

He also plans to install a strategic enrollment growth initiative by establishing effective university branding and studying how to increase student enrollment.

"We will utilize television commercials, we will utilize billboards, we will utilize social media, we will utilize our alumni and student base to tell a consistent story," said Dr. Hemphill. "I like to use the term 'one message, many voices'."

What started as a women's college has now served the greater commonwealth for over 100 years.

Dr. Hemphill says he is excited to be part of that legacy.
