UVA students rally for justice for Martese Johnson

Charlottesville (WSLS) Hundreds of students gathered at the University of Virginia amphitheater to show support for Martese Johnson. The third year student was arrested early Wednesday morning. Photos show the student with a bloody face as he was held down by an officer.

It was an emotional night as students called for unity and justice. Some people shared stories about students being treated unfairly on college campuses and places across the nation.

Many at the rally said Martese did not deserve to be bloodied by ABC agents. Martese Johnson attended Wednesday's rally with visible wounds on his head. Afterwards, dozens of people marched through the streets of downtown Charlottesville and gathered in front of the police station.

While the investigation into this case continues, students said they hope to see justice served.

"We want to come together and also talk about our plans to move forward and initiatives we can take to advance justice on this campus," said Cameron Strange, UVA student.

Martese Johnson has obtained legal counsel.
