BOTETOURT CO. (WSLS 10) - The Virginia Department of Transportation wants the public's opinion as it begins planning safety improvements for Route 220 in Botetourt County. 

Officials say the ten mile stretch of highway from Eagle Rock to Iron Gate will receive upgrades after 72 crashes were reported in the last four years.

Report: Route 220 Safety Improvement Project Rescheduled

Proposed upgrades include widening shoulders, realigning intersections, and adding turn lanes. 

The meeting will take place from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Eagle Rock Elementary. 

Comments about the project may be submitted at the meeting or until March 22, 2015, by mail to Mr. Craig Moore, P.E., Virginia Department of Transportation, 731 Harrison Avenue, Salem, VA 24153.
