ROANOKE (WSLS10) - Restaurants in Roanoke were packed with Hokie fans who watched Frank Beamer attentively as he coached his final game.
At one local Buffalo Wild Wings, the manager said when the Ohio State Buckeyes played Virginia Tech, it was standing room only. Many people started to come in around 4 p.m. to get a chance to sit down and enjoy the game against Tulsa for the Independence Bowl.
The manager said she expected, it will be standing room only for those who want to watch, but that didn't stop the Hokie Nation from sharing tables with others at the restaurant.
"I've come to get the table, the big table my kids are going to be here, lots of friends are going to come in we're rooting for the Hokies, last game for Frank Beamer who we absolutely love," Bonnie Brown a Hokie fan said.
Workers at Beamer's 25, a restaurant named in honor of the legendary coach, said a group of 25 people booked a large table to watch the game.
Spectators said they are glad Beamer coached his last bowl game before his steps down.
"I was really hoping he would make it to the Bristol game next year, I was really hoping to see him finish that out, but I understand it's his time to enjoy his family," Laura Irvin a Virginia Tech fan said.
This was Beamer's 23rd consecutive post season appearance, the streak started in the same game he coached his last game.
