BLACKSBURG (WSLS 10) - Virginia Tech unveiled a unique home for birds on the edge of campus Monday.
The new $700,000 research aviary has 16 rooms that will be full of birds for scientists to observe. The aviary is one of only a handful in this part of the country. Virginia Tech plans to welcome students and faculty from other universities, as well as state and federal wildlife professionals, to work together on projects.
They hope to study issues like climate change, pollution and disease.
The goal is to eventually invest $5-10 million in the aviary complex to further the research.
