RICHMOND, Va. – There are now 80,393 cases of the coronavirus in Virginia as of July 22.

Wednesday’s total of 80,393 marks an increase from Tuesday’s total of 79,371 cases.

Here is a breakdown of the 1,022 new coronavirus cases in Virginia:

  • 139 new cases in Virginia Beach
  • 84 new cases in Fairfax County
  • 60 new cases in Norfolk and Chesapeake
  • 43 new cases in Loudoun County
  • 39 new cases in Portsmouth and Newport News
  • 36 new cases in Alexandria
  • 29 new cases in Spotsylvania County
  • 26 new cases in Chesterfield County
  • 25 new cases in Prince William County
  • 24 new cases in Lynchburg
  • 21 new cases in Hampton
  • 20 new cases in Richmond
  • 18 new cases in Danville
  • 17 new cases in Suffolk
  • 16 new cases in Pittsylvania County
  • 15 new cases in Henrico County
  • 14 new cases in Roanoke
  • 13 new cases in Arlington County and Manassas
  • 12 new cases in Roanoke County
  • 11 new cases in Stafford County

  • 2 new cases in Martinsville, Orange County, Fredericksburg, Caroline County, Hopewell, Bristol, Mecklenburg County, Winchester, Sussex County, Poquoson, Emporia, Charlotte County, Rappahannock County and King George County
  • 1 new case in Waynesboro, Brunswick County, Manassas Park, Shenandoah County, Halifax County, Surry County, King William County, Colonial Heights, Williamsburg City, Goochland County, Carroll County, Greensville County, Southampton County, Essex County, Alleghany County, Smyth County, Appomattox County, Middlesex County, Fairfax City and Madison County
  • Hanover County and Floyd County each decreased by one case

As of Wednesday, the Virginia Dept. of Health reports there have been 1,047,021 total testing encounters.

The term “testing encounters” includes individuals who have been tested more than once due to their profession, high-risk status or need for a negative result to return to work. The health department started using this metric on May 1. To learn more, click here.
