Virginia sees 1,844 new coronavirus cases, now reporting 155,535 statewide

RICHMOND, Va. – As of October 8, Virginia is now reporting 155,535 cases of the coronavirus across the commonwealth since March.

Thursday’s total of 155,535 marks an increase from Wednesday’s total of 153,691 cases.

According to the Virginia Department of Health, today’s 1,844 new cases included 689 cases that should have been reported on Oct. 7.

Here is a breakdown of the 1,844 new cases in Virginia:

  • 185 new cases in Fairfax County
  • 124 new cases in Prince William County
  • 68 new cases in Loudoun County
  • 60 new cases in Chesapeake
  • 59 new cases in Chesterfield County
  • 56 new cases in Roanoke
  • 51 new cases in Virginia Beach
  • 49 new cases in Arlington County
  • 47 new cases in Richmond
  • 42 new cases in Henrico County and Roanoke County
  • 38 new cases in Montgomery County
  • 36 new cases in Lynchburg
  • 35 new cases in Charlottesville
  • 33 new cases in Danville
  • 30 new cases in Suffolk and Bedford County
  • 28 new cases in Norfolk
  • 27 new cases in Harrisonburg
  • 26 new cases in Stafford County
  • 25 new cases in Washington County and Franklin County
  • 24 new cases in Hampton and Campbell County
  • 23 new cases in Alexandria
  • 22 new cases in Newport News
  • 20 new cases in Spotsylvania County, Henry County and Sussex County
  • 19 new cases in Albemarle County

  • 6 new cases in Prince Edward County, York County, Fredericksburg, Franklin, Appomattox County and King William County
  • 5 new cases in Petersburg, Louisa County, Culpeper County, Carroll County, Northumberland County, Scott County and Buena Vista
  • 4 new cases in Lee County, Dinwiddie County and Greensville County
  • 3 new cases in Greene County, Orange County, Staunton, Goochland County, Middlesex County, Westmoreland County, Colonial Heights, Dickenson County, Botetourt County, Lancaster County and Richmond County
  • 2 new cases in Rockbridge County, Floyd County, Winchester, Madison County, Grayson County, Manassas Park, Patrick County and Emporia
  • 1 new case in Bristol, Buckingham County, Charles City County, Northampton County, Rappahannock County, Clarke County, Caroline County, Fairfax, Pulaski County, Fluvanna County, Giles County, Amelia County, Nelson County, Craig County, Poquoson and Bath County

As of Thursday, the Virginia Dept. of Health reports there have been 2,346,240 total testing encounters.

The term “testing encounters” includes individuals who have been tested more than once due to their profession, high-risk status or need for a negative result to return to work. The health department started using this metric on May 1. To learn more, click here.
