Virginia sees 1,114 new coronavirus cases, now reporting 156,649 statewide

There are now 3,344 deaths from the coronavirus in Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. – As of October 9, Virginia is now reporting 156,649 cases of the coronavirus across the commonwealth since March.

Friday’s total of 156,649 marks an increase from Thursday’s total of 155,535 cases.

Here is a breakdown of the 1,114 new cases in Virginia:

  • 104 new cases in Fairfax County
  • 58 new cases in Montgomery County
  • 45 new cases in Prince William County
  • 41 new cases in Henrico County
  • 37 new cases in Chesterfield County
  • 32 new cases in Richmond
  • 29 new cases in Roanoke
  • 27 new cases in Loudoun County
  • 25 new cases in Lynchburg and Rockingham County
  • 24 new cases in Harrisonburg and Newport News
  • 22 new cases in Staunton
  • 21 new cases in Roanoke County, Norfolk and Prince Edward County
  • 18 new cases in Henry County
  • 17 new cases in Charlottesville and Hampton
  • 16 new cases in Chesapeake, Arlington County, Campbell County and Alexandria
  • 15 new cases in Bedford County
  • 14 new cases in Washington County and Spotsylvania County
  • 13 new cases in Stafford County, Russell County and Lexington
  • 12 new cases in Virginia Beach, Franklin County, Pittsylvania County and Amherst County
  • 11 new cases in Petersburg
  • 10 new cases in Danville, Charlotte County, Prince George County and York County
  • 9 new cases in Manassas, Hopewell and James City County
  • 8 new cases in Suffolk, Albemarle County and Frederick County
  • 7 new cases in Waynesboro, Halifax County, Dinwiddie County and Powhatan County

  • 5 new cases in Salem, Hanover County, Tazewell County, Southampton County, Augusta County, Lee County, Buckingham County and Fluvanna County
  • 4 new cases in Martinsville, Gloucester County, New Kent County, Mecklenburg County, Buchanan County, Culpeper County, Scott County, Greene County, Goochland County and Bristol
  • 3 new cases in Brunswick County, Radford, Fredericksburg, Franklin, Louisa County, Richmond County, Rockbridge County, Floyd County, Manassas Park, Patrick County, Caroline County, Pulaski County, Poquoson and Surry County
  • 2 new cases in Nottoway County, Williamsburg, Page County, Appomattox County, Northumberland County, Buena Vista, Middlesex County, Botetourt County, Lancaster County, Nelson County and Lunenberg County
  • 1 new case in Smyth County, Carroll County, Greensville County, Grayson County, Emporia, Fairfax, Giles County, Craig County, Alleghany County, King and Queen County, Galax, Cumberland County and Falls Church
  • Sussex County, King William County, Orange County, Madison County and Rappahannock County all decreased by one case

As of Friday, the Virginia Dept. of Health reports there have been 2,390,394 total testing encounters.

The term “testing encounters” includes individuals who have been tested more than once due to their profession, high-risk status or need for a negative result to return to work. The health department started using this metric on May 1. To learn more, click here.
