Virginia sees 1,018 new coronavirus cases, now reporting 168,772 statewide

There are now 3,515 deaths from the coronavirus in Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. – As of October 21, Virginia is now reporting 168,772 cases of the coronavirus across the commonwealth since March.

Wednesday’s total of 168,772 marks an increase from Tuesday’s total of 167,754 cases.

Here is a breakdown of the 1,018 new coronavirus cases:

  • 80 new cases in Fairfax County
  • 61 new cases in Prince William County
  • 59 new cases in Chesterfield County
  • 52 new cases in Henrico County
  • 38 new cases in Arlington County
  • 35 new cases in Loudoun County
  • 33 new cases in Roanoke
  • 29 new cases in Virginia Beach
  • 28 new cases in Franklin County
  • 27 new cases in Bedford County
  • 23 new cases in Russell County
  • 21 new cases in Roanoke County and Charlottesville
  • 17 new cases in Chesapeake
  • 16 new cases in Montgomery County, Radford and Tazewell County
  • 15 new cases in Warren County
  • 13 new cases in Frederick County, Lynchburg and Lee County
  • 12 new cases in Spotsylvania County
  • 11 new cases in Harrisonburg, Richmond, Scott County, Alexandria, Portsmouth, Danville and Augusta County
  • 10 new cases in Salem, Pittsylvania County and Norfolk
  • 9 new cases in Newport News, Hanover County, Campbell County, Amherst County and Henry County
  • 8 new cases in Stafford County and Wise County
  • 7 new cases in Suffolk, Dinwiddie County and Wythe County
  • 6 new cases in Culpeper County, Hampton, Fauquier County, Albemarle County, Lancaster County, Powhatan County, Botetourt County and Nelson County
  • 5 new cases in Washington County, Halifax County, Waynesboro, Prince Edward County, Manassas, Pulaski County, Franklin, York County and King William County
  • 4 new cases in Petersburg, Winchester, New Kent County, James City County, Bristol, Gloucester County and Northumberland County
  • 3 new cases in Staunton, Isle of Wight County, Giles County, Patrick County, Fredericksburg, Goochland County, Westmoreland County, Craig County and Alleghany County
  • 2 new cases in Rockingham County, Martinsville, Louisa County, Grayson County, Appomattox County, Brunswick County, Greene County, Buchanan County, Fluvanna County, Essex County, Dickenson County, Lexington, Manassas Park and Fairfax
  • 1 new case in Shenandoah County, Smyth County, Hopewell, Page County, Mecklenburg County, Orange County, Northampton County, Emporia, Charlotte County, Poquoson, Rappahannock County, King George County, Southampton County, Mathews County, Colonial Heights, Rockbridge County, Galax, Nottoway County, Charles City County and Madison County
  • Sussex County, Richmond County and Clarke County all decreased by one case
  • Prince George County decreased by two cases

As of Wednesday, the Virginia Dept. of Health reports there have been 2,619,550 total testing encounters.

The term “testing encounters” includes individuals who have been tested more than once due to their profession, high-risk status or need for a negative result to return to work. The health department started using this metric on May 1. To learn more, click here.
