Virginia sees 1,180 new coronavirus cases, now reporting 171,284 statewide

There are now 3,539 deaths from the coronavirus in Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. – As of October 23, Virginia is now reporting 171,284 cases of the coronavirus across the commonwealth since March.

Friday’s total of 171,284 marks an increase from Thursday’s total of 170,104 cases.

Here is a breakdown of the 1,180 new coronavirus cases in Virginia today:

  • 122 new cases in Fairfax County
  • 80 new cases in Prince William County
  • 61 new cases in Roanoke
  • 43 new cases in Virginia Beach
  • 42 new cases in Richmond
  • 40 new cases in Henrico County
  • 39 new cases in Norfolk
  • 35 new cases in Montgomery County
  • 32 new cases in Washington County
  • 31 new cases in Portsmouth and Arlington County
  • 27 new cases in Roanoke County
  • 24 new cases in Loudoun County
  • 22 new cases in Spotsylvania County
  • 19 new cases in Tazewell County
  • 18 new cases in Chesterfield County
  • 17 new cases in Chesapeake and Alexandria
  • 16 new cases in Franklin County, Newport News and Bedford County
  • 14 new cases in Frederick County
  • 13 new cases in Charlottesville
  • 12 new cases in Rockingham County
  • 11 new cases in Lynchburg, Albemarle County, Winchester and Suffolk
  • 10 new cases in Russell County, Prince George County and Alleghany County

  • 3 new cases in Culpeper County, Martinsville, Dinwiddie County, Grayson County, Smyth County, Wythe County, James City County, Brunswick County, Giles County, Richmond County, Craig County, Madison County and Greensville County
  • 2 new cases in Manassas Park, Goochland County, Gloucester County, New Kent County, Accomack County, Poquoson, King William County, Rockbridge County and Westmoreland County
  • 1 new case in Lee County, Greene County, Mecklenburg County, Emporia, Buchanan County, Patrick County, Dickenson County, Page County, Fluvanna County, Nelson County, Clarke County, Bath County, Norton, Cumberland County, Williamsburg, Louisa County, Lunenburg County, Charlotte County, Rappahannock County, Charles City County and King George County
  • Fredericksburg has decreased by one case
  • Pulaski County has decreased by two cases

As of Friday, the Virginia Dept. of Health reports there have been 2,666,896 total testing encounters.

The term “testing encounters” includes individuals who have been tested more than once due to their profession, high-risk status or need for a negative result to return to work. The health department started using this metric on May 1. To learn more, click here.
