Bedford County Sheriff's Office finds missing 6-year-old boy

Boy was missing for a few hours on Thursday

BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. – Samuel Welch was found at about 3:30 p.m. and he is safe.

He was found a few miles away from his home walking in the woods with his dog, according to Major Ricky Gardner with the Bedford County Sheriff's Office.

Gardner says the parents are cooperating with the investigation and the Sheriff's Office is working to figure out why there was a delay in reporting the boy missing.


Officials with the Bedford County Sheriff's Office are asking for help finding a missing 6-year-old boy.

Dispatchers for 911 received a report that Samuel Welch was missing at 12:53 p.m. Thursday.

The boy had been missing since 10 a.m. from his home on Dowdy Rock Road and likely has his black and white border collie named Muffin with him.

He is wearing long pants and a blue hoodie.
