Georgia-Pacific worker released from hospital after 'major trauma incident'

Landing zone set up for injured arm, fire crews say

BIG ISLAND, Va. – Big Island Fire Department responded to what it says is a "major trauma incident" at the Georgia-Pacific plant.

It happened around noon Sunday. 

The man has an injured arm and was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He is doing well and was released Monday morning. 

According to Bedford County dispatch, OSHA and the Virginia Department of Labor have both been notified of this incident.

Georgia-Pacific released the following statement: 

Anytime there is a medical emergency, safety of our mill family is first and foremost.  The decision to call for transport by volunteer fire department members helped ensure that safety.
