BEDFORD, Va. - Workers with the National D-Day Memorial are putting the final touches on their first project in 16 years. Workers were on site in Bedford on Friday painting their new Quonset hut.
It will house the gift shop and a military-style vehicle. The Q-hut will be dedicated with a ribbon cutting after the 73rd anniversary of the D-Day commemoration ceremony Tuesday.
"A Q-hut is the type of shelter that men would've been staying in prior to embarking on D-Day when they were in England. So this is the type of structure the Bedford Boys would have been sleeping in, staying in and eating in prior to embarking on the mission of the day," said Angela Lynch.
Fundraising campaigns helped bring the Q-hut to the memorial.
