Funeral services to be held for Floyd teen who died playing basketball

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - A Floyd County student died while playing basketball with her team in Roanoke on Tuesday.

Funeral plans were announced Wednesday for 13-year-old Leah Goff, a student of Check Elementary School and an upcoming eighth grader at Floyd County High School, according to members with the Floyd County School District.

A funeral will be held for Leah Friday, July 31 at 11 a.m. at Copper Hill Church of the Brethren, with interment in the Restvale Cemetery.  Family will receive friends 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 30 at Maberry Funeral Home.

"We are deeply saddened by her death and wish her family and friends our deepest sympathy," Floyd County Public Schools said, in a released statement.

Floyd County High School opened its doors Wednesday to support students, teachers and community members. Counselors were available Wednesday and again Thursday until 4 p.m., in the library.

Goff's basketball team, the Floyd County Lady Buffaloes, posted a status on her passing Tuesday night.
