Crews respond to partial roof collapse at Ply Gem in Rocky Mount

No one hurt

ROCKY MOUNT, Va. – Part of the roof of Rocky Mount's largest employer collapsed on Wednesday night.

The roof over Ply Gem's lobby, located on North Main Street, collapsed some time before 8:30 p.m, according to Rocky Mount assistant town manager Matt Hankins.

Only the administrative offices for the large construction windows manufacturer, not the production area, is affected, according to Hankins.

Plant manager Chris Backus said the damage is not expected to affect plant operations.

He said the collapse happened after hours and that no one was hurt.

Everyone was accounted for and Hankins said this is the "best possible scenario for an event like this."

Crews are still on scene.

Hankins said the cause appears to be due to heavy rain on the building and that the lobby is a total loss and will have to be reconstructed.

No word yet on how much the damage will cost.
