Police: Moneta man mowing his lawn dies after being hit by minivan

Crash happened at 2:54 p.m.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. – A Moneta man is dead after being hit by a minivan while he was mowing his lawn Tuesday afternoon, according to state police.

Police say a 2004 Honda Odyssey was traveling east on Route 949 when it ran off the left side of the roadway and struck a 1998 Craftsman lawn mower at 2:54 p.m. on Lakewood Forest Drive in Franklin County.

The Odyssey was driven by Alice S. Carr, 72, of Roanoke, who was wearing her seat belt. She was not injured.

Thomas Preston Scott III, 70, of Moneta, was driving the lawn mower and died at the scene.

The State Police Crash Reconstruction Team was called to assist.

The crash remains under investigation.
