Search continues for alleged Rockbridge County bank robber

The bank reported that about $10,000 was stolen

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY, Va. – A day later, authorities are still searching for a man they say robbed a bank in Lexington on Monday afternoon.

The man authorities are searching for is about 5 feet 8 inches tall and is believed to have escaped in a hidden getaway car.

The robbery happened shortly after 1 p.m. at the Cornerstone Bank at 744 North Lee Highway, according to the Rockbridge County Sheriff's Office.

The bank reported that about $10,000 was stolen, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Law enforcement officers from the Lexington Police Department, the Buena Vista Police Department, the Buena Vista Sheriff’s Office, the Virginia Conservation Police and Virginia State Police assisted in Monday's search.

After a perimeter was established, both K-9s and a helicopter assisted in the search.

Nearby schools were temporarily locked down, but officials say those lockdowns have since been lifted.
