Driver hospitalized after van cut off truck on Rt. 29, causing truck to crash into an embankment

ALTAVISTA, Va. - One driver is in the hospital and another is facing charges after authorities say they cut in front of a truck, causing it to go down an embankment off Rt. 29, according to Virginia State Police. 

The incident happened at the intersection of Gladys Road and Rt. 29 around 3:30 when the flatbed truck carrying an SUV was driving southbound on Rt. 29. Authorities say a van made a U-turn and cut in front of the truck, causing the truck to swerve into the embankment. 

Authorities say the driver of the truck was taken to the hospital and that their condition is unknown. 

The driver of the van has been charged with failure to yield, according to police.
