15-hour standoff with Lynchburg police ends peacefully

LYNCHBURG, Va.UPDATE 

A 15-hour standoff with Lynchburg police has ended peacefully. 

Police were originally called around 10 a.m. Tuesday to check on a man who was reportedly lying on the railroad tracks near Jefferson Ridge Parkway. 

When they arrived, they realized the man was armed with knives. He was threatening to hurt himself, so a tactical team stepped in to help. 

Police were eventually able to take the man into custody around 1:15 a.m. Wednesday. He was taken to Lynchburg General Hospital for an evaluation. 

No charges have been announced.

Lynchburg officers are in the area of Jefferson Ridge Parkway.

Police say they made contact with a man and are speaking with him.
