Pastor Jonathan Falwell will return to St. Martin for third time since Hurricane Irma

Falwell, wife were celebrating their anniversary in St. Martin

LYNCHBURG, Va. – A Lynchburg pastor who was stuck in St. Martin during Hurricane Irma, has plans to go back for a third time.

Pastor Jonathan Falwell and his wife were celebrating their anniversary in Saint Martin, when the couple and hundreds of others had to take shelter as the storm destroyed the island. Two days after coming back to the United States, Falwell traveled back to the St. Martin.

He says he wanted to help with the evacuations and begin the process of assessing what the people on the island needed. Since his second trip, Falwell says, they've teamed up with other organizations and sent lots of supplies, including a shipment that left Lynchburg on Saturday.

“It's just this ongoing, long-term engagement and involvement to help the people on that island and islands in that area to rebuild. But also to show we're here in America, we're here in Virginia, but we're followers of Christ and we care about them and we love them and we want to do what we can to support them,” Falwell, pastor of Thomas Road Baptist Church, said.

Falwell says at some point within the next week, he will be traveling back to St. Martin.
