Nelson County man arrested after car chase

Chase began with 911 call about shots being fired from vehicle

NELSON COUNTY, Va. – A 21-year-old Nelson County man is in jail after a car chase Thursday, the Nelson County Sheriff's Office said.

The Sheriff’s Office, along with the Virginia State Police, were involved in a pursuit on Route 29 in the Lovingston area.

It began with a 911 call about shots being fired from a vehicle. The pursuit ended when the driver wrecked his vehicle at the intersection of Route 29 and Rockfish River Road.

The driver was arrested and identified as James J.“Jeffery” Harris, from Faber, Virginia.

He was charged with eluding police, shooting into an occupied vehicle, shooting from a vehicle, possession of drugs, hit-and-run and several other driving violations.  

A firearm and other items were recovered from the vehicle, the Sheriff's Office said.

He is being held at the Albemarle Regional Jail without bail.
