Domino's delivers to Radford students stranded in snow

RADFORD, Va. – It was a pizza delivery of a different kind. Tuesday, after winter weather made roads in Radford treacherous, the local Domino's stepped in to help students stuck on a school bus.

"People want pizza on their best day and they want pizza on their worst day. And this was a very difficult day for a lot of kids in this area so we were just glad to give them a little bit of pizza love in their time of need," said Allison Shaw, vice president of New River Valley Pizza.

Ten students were on driver Judi Simpkin's bus when, at the advice of the school system, Judi pulled over to wait for road conditions to improve. Christopher Keeling was one of the students on that stranded bus. His sister happened to work at the Domino's in Radford and was heading in. The rest is history.

"Lo and behold, here comes our little Domino's angels and they brought in pizzas and wings," said Judi Simpkins.

After the roads became too dangerous, the bus pulled off. It was about an hour or so before the students were surprised with pizzas.

"Hooray. I was so glad that they brought us food because all of us were starving and we just wanted some food," said Quentin Moore.

"I was really happy because everyone was kind of freaking out and it was nice of them to bring us some pizza," said Emma Leggett.

For Judi and the students, riding on icy roads and then being stranded for a couple hours was a pretty scary way to spend their Tuesday night. And they have some words for the Domino's that didn't have to deliver.

"God bless you. Thank you so much. They really showed up out of the blue when we needed them," Simpkins said.

"Thanks a lot, we definitely needed that," said Christopher Keeling.

Days later, these middle schoolers are thankful for a little slice of generosity.
