Giles County woman charged after allegedly stealing $300,000

GILES COUNTY, Va. – Court documents reveal a former bank employee at the BB&T Bank in Giles County faces bank fraud charges after allegedly stealing more than $300,000 from various bank accounts.

Anna Burton Holt, who worked at the Pearisburg branch, admitted to stealing more than $16,800 from two of her relatives, according to court documents and an arrest warrant filed in U.S. District Court.

Although she denied any other embezzlements, investigators say she stole more than $300,000 from other BB&T accounts between April 2014 and March 2017.

Holt allegedly was able to steal the money through cashing checks, CDs and U.S. savings bonds.

Holt was released on a $25,000 bond.
