New robotic lawn mower for sale in southwest Virginia

Programmable mower can cut about an acre of grass by itself

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. – There’s a new way to keep your grass looking nice without pushing or riding a mower. There’s a new robotic lawn mower available in southwestern Virginia.

It’s called “Miimo.” Honda has started a limited release of them to gauge interest. Power Zone in Christiansburg got them last week. It’s the only store in the state and one of fewer than 50 nationwide to carry them.

It has small razors that are meant to cut grass that has been growing for just a few days. It can cover about an acre and has the ability to return to its charging station. It stops and turns if it hits something and the blades turn off if it becomes elevated.

"This mower will do all the mowing for you and all you have to do is go back and do your perimeter, boundary trimming," Power Zone president Jim Higham said.

It stays in a set boundary, similar to how electric fences work for dogs.

The price is $2,500. Many companies have been selling robotic lawn options in Europe, but they’re becoming more popular in America.
