CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. – Law enforcement officers across the commonwealth are running for a good cause as part of the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run.
They're making their way to Richmond for the Special Olympics Summer Games this weekend.
Officers from the Roanoke Valley started Monday morning in front of the Radford Police Department. They'll complete a total of more than 83 miles.
Organizers say they've raised more than $1 million so far.
"This year, on the back of our shirt, we have our quote, our athlete motto, which is 'let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.’ And it really just solidifies why the officers are doing everything they can, running in the heat through the mountains," Special Olympics Southwest Virginia Director of Development Matt Camire said.
The Virginia Tech Police Department will take the torch Tuesday at 7:30 a.m.
