Virginia Tech alumnus running 31 marathons in 31 days

Rob Jones lost both of his legs in Afghanistan

A Virginia Tech alumnus, who is a double amputee, is running 31 marathons in 31 days.

Rob Jones, a Marine veteran, graduated from Virginia Tech in 2007.

Jones is no stranger to the pain. Seven years ago, he lost both his legs to an IED in Afghanistan.

"I know that veterans just because they are injured overseas they come back and that doesn't mean they are broken," Jones said.

He didn't slow down. Instead, two years later he took a bronze medal home from the Paralympics and went on to be the first and only double amputee to bike over 5,000 miles.

"I had a pretty traumatic experience and I am still staying in the fight," Jones said.
