Virginia Tech football season tickets selling quickly

The Clemson game is expected to bring thousands of fans to Lane Stadium.

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Football season is almost here with the first game just over a month away for Virginia Tech, but excitement is already building in Blacksburg with a huge number of season ticket sales.

This marks the second season in three years that Virginia Tech will welcome a reigning national champion to Lane Stadium. In 2015, Ohio State marked the season opener for the Hokies. This year, Clemson will be making a stop in Blacksburg as well.

Bringing in the reigning national champions has definitely had a big impact on ticket sales for Virginia Tech in years past, and it's expected to bring tens of thousands of fans into Lane Stadium once again this year.

Season tickets went on sale to the public in the middle of June. Now there are just a few thousand tickets left with a majority of the seating sections showing a low availability remaining for tickets. With a price tag of about $350 per seat, Virginia Tech's Pete Moris says buying a season ticket could be your best option for getting to the Clemson game.

"The key message for fans is, if you want to come to the Clemson game you better get a season ticket. That's the only way you're going to get it without paying a ton of money," he says. "So you might as well get all six home games, get Clemson, have a good time and join us for the whole season."

If last year's match up against Clemson is any indication, this is a game that's expected to bring plenty of on-field excitement to Lane Stadium. Moris says Coach Justin Fuente is excited for another shot at taking on the Clemson Tigers.

"Coach Fuente was just down at the ACC Kickoff last week and that loss against Clemson still kind of eats at him. We had a shot to tie it up or go ahead, but Clemson is a great team and we look forward to having them back," Moris says.

Just this week, Virginia Tech released a new mini-package of season tickets. It features three Coastal Division Games, North Carolina, Duke and Pittsburgh. Those tickets are now on sale to the public for $180.

Virginia Tech's first game of the season is September 3 at FedEx Field in Maryland. They'll take on West Virginia at 7:30 p.m., as they fight to hang onto the Black Diamond Trophy. This is the first meeting between the school since 2005. Already, Virginia Tech has sold out of their allotment of tickets for that game. There are still some left on Ticketmaster. Tickets start at about $140 each.

This season marks the 125th anniversary of the first football game at Virginia Tech. From visits by Coach Beamer to some of the former great players at Virginia Tech, fans can expect a lot of excitement and surprises on the field the season.

Coach Frank Beamer continues his effort to get 25,000 people to join the Hokie Club as part of his Drive for 25.

"25 is kind of our magic number, with that being Coach Beamer's number when he played here," says Moris. "We're trying to get 25,000 people in the Hokie Club. If people want to help the Hokies, join the Hokie Club. It's $25 a month and that goes directly to scholarships for our student athletes."

Right now, membership stands at 14,000, which is a record high for the Hokie Club.
