1.5 million tabs representing children displayed at Temple Emanuel

Holocaust survivor shares his story at Temple Emanuel

ROANOKE, Va. – Temple Emanuel collected 1.5 million tabs, each representing a child who was murdered during the Holocaust.

Hank Brodt is one of the few in the world living, who lived the through atrocities of Nazi Germany.

“Unless you go through it you will never understand it no matter how many courses you take,” he said.

Brodt survived five Nazi prison camps and a forced labor camp.

“We won't have many more opportunities to hear from a witness as to what exactly happened during those years. For him to have the strength and integrity to tell the story, it's so difficult for him, but so important for us,” Rabbi Kathy Cohen said.

Temple Emanuel collected the tabs to aid Roanoke's Ronald McDonald.

The tabs came from 22 states and seven countries.
