Angels of Assisi needs your help after recent rescue

ROANOKE, Va. – Angels of Assisi is asking for your help with a recent rescue.

The organization just brought in about 50 dogs from a hoarding case in Russell County. Authorities there say they rescued the animals last week from deplorable and overpopulated conditions.

A nearby animal shelter didn't have enough room or resources for all the animals, so Angels of Assisi stepped in.

Now the shelter needs your help with donations, including small-breed dog food, canned dog food for those with dental issues, fleece blankets and toys.

"They need medical care, they need grooming. They had a lot of fleas and things like that so medical care has started, and it will continue on for the next few weeks," said Lisa O'Neill, executive director at Angels of Assisi.
