Beware of moving scams when moving to another location

ROANOKE, Va.- - May is National Moving Month, and whether you're looking to move across town or across the country, it's important to do your research on the movers you hire.

The Better Business Bureau of Western Virginia wants you to verify the mover's claims and credentials. It's also important to get everything in writing. CEO Julie Wheeler recommends finding a company in the state you're either moving to or from.

"You're moving from Roanoke to Memphis, don't hire a moving company in New York. I don't care how good the price is because chances are, you're going to have trouble," said Wheeler.

Movers demanding cash or a large deposit before the move are more red flags to watch for.
