Botetourt County's Fire and EMS chief resigns six months into job

Resignation effective Dec. 1

BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va. – The Botetourt County’s Fire and Emergency Medical Services chief has resigned after just six months on the job.

Matthew Britt told county officials that he is leaving his job effective Dec. 1.

The decision was described as a mutual agreement between the county and Britt.

County officials spent nearly a year looking for a new emergency services head after the death of former Chief Jeff Beckner in 2016.

While no explanation was given for the departure, county leaders expressed their thanks to Britt for his service and wish him success in his future endeavors.

The department has already begun the process to fill the position.
