Christmas Tree hunting is here, and this is where you can go

ROANOKE,Va. – With Thanksgiving behind us and Christmas around the corner, it is time to start hunting for the perfect tree.

This year, when you are looking for your tree, there a few things to keep in mind. The Sweet Providence Christmas Tree lot, which has become famous for its 45-foot inflatable Frosty the Snowman, has moved from Tanglewood to Hunting Hills.

The move was not by choice for the tree lot, but they are having great results. So far they have sold 75 trees in less than a week of  being open.

According to the manager of lot, because of the recession, there has been a shortage of available trees, meaning they are in higher demand and higher in cost.

While tree hunting, be sure to check for the freshness of trees. Many companies tend to cut them down early and store them, but that may cause them to dry quickly.

Derrick Quirin, lot manager at Sweet Providence, explains, what to look for in fresh trees.
“You can tell if it’s fresh by the way it retains the needles,” Quirin said.

“Needles are a huge indication of when the tree was cut and how long it has been without water.”

Another thing to keep in mind is that if the needles are green, but falling off the tree is not absorbing enough water. This will make it highly flammable.
