Cause determined for Roanoke County fire

Fire behind Fink's Jewelers

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. – The Roanoke County Fire Marshal determined that downed power lines caused a fire Monday afternoon.

About nine evergreen trees caught fire and an ember from that fire caused a minor, smoldering dumpster fire in the same area, according to the fire department.

According to the fire department, crews responded at about 2:50 p.m. to the 3500 block of Electric Road in the Cave Spring area for a reported commercial structure fire.

When crews arrived, they found trees between Fink's Jewelers and North Cross School on fire, as well as a dumpster fire and downed power lines.

Crews had the fire under control by 2:57 p.m. and no one was injured.

While ash from the burning trees landed on the roof of Fink's, there was no actual damage found.

Fink's is currently without power, along with some other businesses in the area.

AEP is working to restore power now to the area.
