ROANOKE, Va. - Class reunions are a chance for old friends to come back together. This weekend in Roanoke, after 70 years , a reunion brings classmates from across the East Coast back together.
It's been 70 years since the classmates roamed the halls at Jefferson High School in Roanoke.
"Feels like coming home. It's amazing that we have kept contact for that many years," said Ed Lunsford.
About 30 classmates are expected to turn out for the reunion. But traveling back to Roanoke isn't always easy when you're in your late 80s. For one woman from Massachusetts, the tough journey was worth it.
"If you haven't been to a lot of them, as I haven't, it''s nice to be able to speak with somebody and think oh my goodness, they do remember me. That's nice, to be remembered," said Delphine Paradis.
This weekend, the classmates are planning to do plenty of laughing, hugging and reminiscing.
"The kids came from all over Roanoke to dance and it was a lot of fun. Everybody knew how to jitterbug, and we did," said Lunsford.
Quite a few things have changed in the past 70 years. But here in this room, time is standing still for a moment and these classmates are taking it all in.
"Just not losing your past memories. It renews something and it's fun to remember," said Joyce Tice.
"I guess we love our school and our memories," said Lunsford.
