Roanoke-area restaurants prepare for Thanksgiving crowd

The Roanoker is open on Thanksgiving every year

ROANOKE, Va. – While many families will eat at home this Thanksgiving, several restaurants in the Roanoke area are preparing for the people who might have burned their birds.

The Roanoker plans to serve about 1,000 turkey dinners on Thursday. The owner says the restaurant always stocks up days before the holiday. This year, The Roanoker is working with nearly 900 pounds of dressing and more than 100 whole turkeys.

The restaurant says staying open for the holiday has become a tradition.

"We have always been open for 76 years on Thanksgiving because it is really a family day and we cater to families," said Butch Craft, owner of The Roanoker.

The Roanoker is open Thursday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
