ROANOKE, Va. –
Lila Clemons and Sydney Blaszak love coming to the Mill Mountain Zoo.
And like many visitors, they have high hopes for the growing facility.

“I want it to be bigger, with a lot more animals,” Blaszak said.
Co-Director Bill Baker of the zoo said that community support is critical, especially during the winter season.
“Winter is very slow for us,” Baker said.
While this weekend's final fundraiser of the year, "Winter Wild" proved to be a hit, Baker's interest goes beyond just keeping the doors open.
Currently, there are several projects getting underway.
“Our playground is currently under renovation, and that's going to be totally different come the spring, and were building a new bald eagle exhibit, to name a few,” Baker said.
“I love what Mill Mountain Zoo is about. I love everyone here. Everyone is so nice and they treat you like family,” Gracie Vaught, a visitor, said.
“But you know, as always, we depend on the public support,” Baker said.
If all goes as planned, Baker said the new projects are expected to be completed by spring.
