ROANOKE, Va. – Many woke up early for the grand opening of the new TJ Maxx & HomeGoods store Thursday morning, including a man from Ohio who drove to Roanoke so he could be the first customer in line.
Most of the anxious customers lined up a couple hours before doors opened at 8 a.m. to get a first look inside the store.
But John Johnston, of Jackson, Ohio, said he camped outside the store at 2 a.m.
He said only a grand opening will have the items he's looking for to complete his wife's Hocus Pocus dish collection.
“These are some of the dishes. I’m holding a witches brew bowl, and to complete the matching set, here’s the Hocus-Pocus bowl," the man said as he pointed out his purchases.
The discount retail chain, located on Electric Road, is open seven days a week.
