Police investigate Salem armed robbery

Robbery happened Sunday night, police say

SALEM, Va. - Police are searching for the man they say stole money from a Salem store Sunday night.

At about 8:20 p.m., officers responded to the Choice Cigarette Discount Outlet in the 500 block of East 4th Street in reference to a reported armed robbery.

The store clerk told officers that a masked man with a silver handgun entered the store,
demanded money and left with cash, according to a news release from the Salem Police Department.

Authorities describe the suspect as a 6-foot-tall black man with a light complexion and slender build.

At the time of the robbery, police say he was wearing a black hooded shirt, blue jeans and white tennis shoes.

There were no injuries related to the incident.
