Police: Roanoke man dies after stabbing

He died in the hospital Tuesday night

ROANOKE, Va. – A 37-year-old man is dead and police are searching for the person who killed him after a stabbing Tuesday night in Roanoke, police said.

Police officers went to the intersection of 8th Street SE and Dale Avenue SE at 7:56 p.m. Tuesday after receiving numerous 911 calls about a man with a cut or stab wound to his neck.

The man was seen wandering near the intersection with the wound to his neck, police said.

Witnesses said the man was picked up by another person and taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Officers at the hospital identified the victim as Brandon Russell Mulhauser, of Roanoke. He later died of his injury at the hospital.

Police are investigating his death as a homicide.

A person involved in an altercation with Mulhauser before the 911 calls, an acquaintance of Mulhauser's, has been identified.

Police say the circumstances leading to the stabbing are still under investigation.

No charges have been placed at this time.
