ROANOKE, Va. - The Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport is one of four Virginia airports that's getting federal funding to improve and enhance airport infrastructure.
Administrators at the airport say they are very pleased to be getting more than $3M which will go toward two major projects.
The funds will go to seal coating to two runways.
This will increase the runway's overall lifespan.
The airport is also using the funds for a second project in the parking lot that's already getting underway.
“What we're really excited about as well, is its funding for a walkway canopy project. This is for the walkway that goes down the middle of the parking lot. The canopy that will protect our passengers from the elements, so we’re excited to get that project going,” said airport spokesman Brad Boettcher.
The canopy project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
