Roanoke man could receive life sentence after deadly May shooting

ROANOKE, Va. – A man who turned himself in to police after a deadly shooting pleaded no contest to first-degree murder on Thursday morning.

Lacquaine Myers, 29, is charged with shooting and killing Donye Smith on May 7.

Smith was shot and then robbed in the 1100 block of Loudon Avenue NW, according to police.

In addition to the murder charge, Myers also pleaded no contest to attempted robbery and two weapons charges.

On the first-degree murder charge, Myers could be sentenced to life in prison.

His sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 26.
