Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs set to begin season two

The team will celebrate the area's pro hockey history Friday night

ROANOKE, Va. – Pro ice hockey is back in Roanoke.

The Rail Yard Dawgs begin their second season Friday night after bringing pro hockey back to the area last year following a decade-long absense.

A team spokesperson says they're expecting around 4,000 fans at the Berglund Center for the game, which is scheduled to start at 7:05 p.m.

It's the 50th anniversary of pro hockey in Roanoke. The Salem Rebels go back to 1967.

To celebrate the pro hockey history, the team will honor some past players and staff Friday night.

The Rail Yard Dawgs will play eight of their first nine games on home ice.
